Convicted child molester gets 2 life sentences

<p>A convicted child molester has been sentenced to two life sentences for molesting a 5-year-old relative.</p><p>And Fulton County Superior Court Judge Craig Schwall did not mince words Friday as he sentenced Michael J. Pearson, 48.</p><p>Calling Pearson "evil," the judge told him he had "no redeeming qualities. You are of no use to society."</p><p>Pearson was convicted of child molestation and aggravated sexual battery. The molestation is said to have happened in Hapeville in 2001.</p><p>During the three-day trial, which moved some jurors to tears, the girl used dolls to show jurors what she endured for four months. Two other relatives and two women from Chicago who are not related to Pearson also told jurors they were abused during incidents that date back two decades.</p><p>Georgia law required a tougher sentence for Pearson because it was his second molestation conviction. He had previously been convicted in 1991 for molesting an 8-year-old girl in Chicago who suffered injuries that required medical treatment. Pearson was sentenced in 1992 to serve 10 years in an Illinois prison, but was paroled in half that time and began targeting more victims, prosecutors said.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x1cd9884)</p>
