Bearden is one of only 49 physical therapists in the United States to achieve certification in the pediatrics specialty this year.
Bearden graduated in 1991 from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta with a bachelor's degree in physical therapy. At NGMC, Bearden works with inpatients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and in outpatient follow-up with the infants she sees in the hospital. She has been working in pediatric physical therapy for 12 years.
"We are pleased to have someone with this prestigious credential as a long-standing member of our rehab staff," says Anthony Williamson, vice president of Professional Services at NGMC. "This supports our commitment of clinical excellence at NGHS, and the children and families in our region are extremely fortunate to have someone with this designation as an expert clinician here at NGMC."
The ABPTS of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) awards certificates to physical therapists meeting approved requirements. To obtain board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area and successfully complete a rigorous written examination, which demonstrates specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in the specialty area of physical practice.
