UNDATED - Bicycle riders on a mission to raise awareness about blood donations are to visit Gainesville this week.

The ride - sponsored by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, began in Ottawa, Canada, September 1 and is to end October 21 in South Beach, Fla.

The bikers are to roll into northeast Georgia Wednesday with a planned stop in Cornelia. Thursday, they'll be in Athens and Gainesville.

Shannon Gables with LifeSouth says this group of riders has never been thru Gainesville before, "Each of the riders is either a donor or a recipient of one of the five points of life."

The Five Points of Life 2006 Ride is designed to raise awareness of the five ways "we can share life with others through donation," according to organizers.

It is a program of LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, a nonprofit community blood bank based in Gainesville, Fla., that supplies 110 hospitals in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
