Mississippi State player accused of attempted sexual battery

STARKVILLE, Miss. - A 20-year-old Mississippi State University football player has been suspended from the school and the team after being charged with attempted sexual battery, authorities said Thursday.<br> <br> Adron Chambers, a sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., was arrested by the University Police Department Wednesday night. The alleged assault occurred earlier Wednesday at a campus housing facility, the university said in a statement.<br> <br> ``Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students, and we began an immediate investigation,&#39;&#39; said Mike White, dean of students. ``Based on the gathered evidence, Mr. Chambers was formally charged Wednesday night.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Chambers, a business administration major and defensive back for coach Sylvester Croom, will remain on suspension from the university pending an on-campus hearing.<br> <br> Croom suspended Chambers from the team.<br> <br> The felony charges will be handled separately, officials said.<br> <br> The Oktibbeha County Sheriff&#39;s Department confirmed Chambers was still being held Thursday.<br> <br> Chambers saw action in all five games played this season and is credited with seven tackles and an interception for the 1-4 Bulldogs.
