GAINESVILLE - About 150 parents and students from Enota Elementary School took part in Walk to School Day Wednesday.

It was the second year Enota has participated, according to principal Sally Meadors, who says it is sponsored by the national PTA. It is held to promote safe walking and bicycling to school year round. According to the Walk to School Day Web site, 45 schools in Georgia were to participate.

Students and parents who participated in Gainesville walked or biked to Enota from 3-10 blocks away between 7:00 and 8:00 Wednesday morning.

"We had a huge crowd of parents and students walk from several different locations in town," Meadors said, "from the civic center, Green's Grocery, the Elks' Club and from numerous neighborhoods around the school area."
