The chamber board was told at its montly meeting - just four days before the start of this year's membership drive - that 29 new members joined the chamber last month. Materials distributed at the meeting also show that 25 chamber members also requested that they be dropped from the chamber rolls for a variety of reasons.

JACBOS TO BE HONORED
Board member Phillip Wilheit briefed the audience on plans for a "Community Appreciation Dinner" in November to honor John W. Jacobs, Jr., for "60 years of leadership in local business, education, civic and church endeavors."
Jacobs, who with a number of other area businessmen founded what is now Jacobs Media Corp. shortly after World War II and put radio station WDUN on the air in 1949, will be honored at 6:00 Nov. 21 at Riverside Military Academy. (AccessNorthGa.com is a part of Jacobs Media.)
The dinner will be sponsored by the chamber of commerce, Brenau University, Gainesville Kiwanis Club, Grace Episcopal Church and Riverside Military Academy.
Wilheit said the price of tickets for the event will be a tax-deductible contribution to the Northeast Georgia History Center's An American Freedom Garden and "its endowment that makes possible additional veterans' participation." The garden will include the names of veterans engraved on a granite pillar.
NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Darla Shuler of Walters Management and Bill Kitchens of Wrigley's were introduced as new board members, filling vacancies on the chamber board of directors. Board member Anita Scott, who is stepping down pending her retirement from Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Health System, was recognized, as was former board member and chamber chair LeTrell Simpson, another retiring medical center/health system employee.
