Dr. Ed Rigel, Sr. and Fred Kelly, co-chairs of the 15th annual Medical Center Open, say it raised $180,605.
"This year's goal was to raise $125,000 to benefit INK (an interactive kids museum in Gainesville)," said Nancy Colston, executive director of The Medical Center Foundation. "To exceed our goal by this much is tremendous."
Funds raised through the Medical Center Open will allow INK to build a new exhibit called "Building a Healthy Body," to provide interactive learning about the effects of nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices on the body. The exhibit will serve as INK's core gallery on health education and programming.
This year's Medical Center Open, sponsored by Wachovia and The Medical Center Foundation, had nearly 200 sponsors, 216 players and 100 volunteers contributing to the tournament.
