A shrimp boat apparently snagged Monday the wreckage of a small plane that crashed last month in the Atlantic Ocean, killing three of the four people on board, officials said.

St. Johns County sheriff's Sgt. Chuck Mulligan says the agency believes the plane the boat's crew snagged is the wreckage of the Cessna 195 that crashed Dec. 18, killing three Rome, Ga., residents: pilot Gary Tillman, 43; his 16-year-old daughter, Hanna; and Anna Kipp, also 16. Passenger Rachel Hostetler, 16, escaped the plane and was rescued.

Mulligan said two bodies were recovered on Monday. One of the bodies is believed to be Hanna Tillman, while the other is thought to be her father, Mulligan said.

Kipp died at a hospital after the crash.

In the days after the crash, rain, gale force winds and 7- to 10-foot seas hampered the search for the plane, which was submerged in about 50 feet of water 1 mile off Vilano Beach near St. Augustine.

The plane departed Craig Field in Jacksonville and was headed to Fort Pierce.

Gary Tillman sent a distress call reporting the plane was losing altitude and the control tower lost contact with the aircraft a short time later.

The cause of the crash was being investigated.
