The rate declined two-tenths of a percent to an even 4 percent. A year ago, it was 3.9.
That, by the way, is the rate for the 13-county Georgia Mountains region, which includes Gainesville, and reflects a decline of a tenth of a percent.
Meanwhile, as reported last week, the state unemployment rate decreased to 4.9 percent during the past month, down three-tenths percent from 5.2 percent in November.
A year ago it was 4.7 percent.
State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says the state rate declined in December because seasonal jobs in some industries, such as trade and services increased, while other workers in construction and manufacturing left the job market due to seasonal slow
downs and were not actively seeking employment due to the impending
recalls.
