PITTSBURGH (AP) Notre Dame scored touchdowns on five of its first six possessions to win Charlie Weis's coaching debut with the Fighting Irish in a big way, 42-to-21 over 23rd-ranked Pittsburgh.

Brady Quinn ran Weis's offense like a college version of Tom Brady. Weis came to Notre Dame after being offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Weis won the anticipated matchup of two former N-F-L coaches turned college head coaches as his Irish outclassed Pitt, now coached by Dave Wannstedt, a one-time defensive coordinator and the former coach of the Bears and Dolphins.

Quinn went 18-of-27 for 233 yards and two touchdowns. One went to running back Darius Walker for 51 yards on Notre Dame's first score and another to Jeff Samardzija for 19 yards. Notre Dame outgained Pitt 502-to-323, helped by a 275-to-103 edge in rushing.

Walker carried 20 times for 100 yards.

(Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
