Everyone is invited to come out to have fun while helping to clean up Lake Lanier. Collect trash along the shoreline of Lake Lanier with a team such as the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, make it a family affair or go solo. The event begins at 8 a.m., Saturday, September 24th and culminates with a volunteer appreciation party at Lanier Park on Buford Dam Road from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Volunteers will be treated to lunch, entertainment and a chance to win raffle prizes. Shore Sweep is the fastest growing program that the association organizes.
Participating marinas and parks that are facilitating the operational aspects of trash removal are vital to this event. Based on last year's calculated tonnage, the association is estimating that volunteers will collect an estimated 25 tons of trash at the upcoming Shore Sweep. Participating partners already committed to the event include: Aqualand Marina, Baldridge Marina, Clarks Bridge Park, Gainesville Marina, Habersham Marina, Holiday Marina, Lanier Harbor Marina, Lan-Mar Marina, Lazy Days Marina, Starboard Marina, Sunrise Cove Marina and War Hill Park.
"On behalf of all of the members of the Lake Lanier Association, we wish to thank the hundreds of volunteers who come together for Shore Sweep each year and we welcome the new participants. Special thanks to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts whose participation has greatly increased over the past few years", said Jackie Joseph, president of Lake Lanier Association. "In addition, this effort would not be possible without the continuing support of area marinas and parks, the US Army Corp of Engineers, Martin Docks, BFI, Junk Express, Hall County, Dawson County, Eagle Point Land Fill and Norman's Landing and other sponsors."
