FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) Arkansas tailback Felix Jones has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.
In his first collegiate game Saturday, the 6-foot, 195-pounder from Tulsa, Okla., torched the Missouri State defense for a game-high 137 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. On just his second carry, he ran left and busted through for an 80-yard score. He had 116 yards on his first three carries.
Arkansas beat overmatched Missouri State 49-17.
Jones came just 5 yards shy of the all-time single-game rushing record for a Razorback freshman, behind only Brandon Holmes' 142 yards against LSU in 2000. Half of Jones' carries went for 10 yards or more and he became just the eighth freshman in Arkansas history to rush for more than 100 yards in a game.
