LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) Kentucky defensive tackle Lamar Mills has a torn knee ligament and will miss the rest of the football season, coach Rich Brooks said Thursday.
Mills suffered the injury late during Sunday's game against Louisville. The 6-foot-1, 285-pound junior from Slidell, La., made a career-high eight tackles in the 31-24 loss to the 12th-ranked Cardinals.
``Disappointment is a mild term,'' Brooks said. ``This is devastating for him because he played such a great game. He has been playing better than he ever has, and this is a big disappointment, for him and for our defense.''

Mills already has taken his redshirt season, which means the injury will cost him a season of eligibility unless the NCAA grants him a sixth season which is rare, but not unheard of.

Mills started seven games in 2003 as a redshirt freshman and four games last season. He entered the season with 75 career tackles, including eight for loss.
Mills' injury depletes the Wildcats' already-thin defensive line. Of the seven defensive tackles listed on Kentucky's preseason depth chart, four have missed time due to injuries or health issues. Besides Mills, Ricky Abren is out indefinitely with a broken wrist.
Two other defensive tackles, Jason Leger and Myron Pryor, should be available Saturday, when Kentucky will host Idaho State. Leger missed the Louisville game with a knee sprain, while Pryor left the game because of leg cramps.
