Greene County avenges last year's lost with huge upset win

Greene County&#39;s defense just wasn&#39;t going to let Washington county score lots of points this time around.<br> <br> The Tigers (4-0), who lost 55-19 to the Golden Hawks last year, pulled off one of the biggest upsets of a young season Friday night in a scoreless second half beating higher-class Washington County 14-7.<br> <br> ``It was a great game,&#39;&#39; said Greene County coach Larry Milligan. ``Our defense was excellent. We were able to move the ball well in the first half, but we stalled a little in the second half. But, overall, our kids played great offensively and defensively.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> The last score came in the second quarter with 4:04 when Josh Nesbitt had a 24-yard touchdown run, then completed a pass to Marcus Foster for the two-point conversion. Nesbitt also had a 21-yard TD run in the first.<br> <br> Ulysses Taylor scored on a 1-yard run for Washington County. The Golden Hawks (3-1), who ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, fell to 88-9 in 13 years at their home stadium.<br> <br> MCNAIR EASILY HANDLES NO. 5 M.L. KING: Theo Maxie threw for 149 passing yards and three touchdowns to lead McNair to a 27-6 win over M.L. King.<br> <br> Maxie&#39;s touchdown passes were to Eugene Harris of 26 and 2 yards and 19 yards to Brandon McCrary for McNair (3-1).<br> <br> Corey Taylor, who was held to 87 passing yards, hit Aaron Robinson on a 23-yard pass for M.L. King (3-1).<br> <br> NO. 1 BOWDON WINS DESPITE HIGH-POWER LANDMARK OFFENSE: A.J. Cooley ran for 171 yards on eight carries with a touchdown and Josh Grooms carried the ball four times for 123 yards to lead Bowdon in a 44-21 victory over Landmark Christian.<br> <br> Grooms also caught a 51-yard touchdown pass for the Red Devils (4-0). Jake Rollins was 7-of-10 for 134 passing yards, including a TD run.<br> <br> Matt Moody, who had 800 passing yards in the first three games this season, led the War Eagle (3-1) offense completing 19-of-32 for 186 yards and 125 rushing yards on 12 carries.<br> <br> NO. 3 CARROLLTON KEEPS SOLID SEASON GOING: Michael Kirk scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and Jarrad Tarrant returned two consecutive punts for scores and the Carrollton beat Fayette County 35-0.<br> <br> The Trojans (4-0) limited the Tigers to just 76 total yards. Kirk ran for 206 yards rushing on 25 carries, highlighted by a 73-yard TD.<br> <br> NO. 4 HARRISON TD IN LAST MINUTES GETS WIN: Tyler Evans scored the game-winning touchdown on a 5-yard run to lift Harrison to a 21-16 victory over South Cobb.<br> <br> Evans, who scored the game-winner with 1:45 left in the game, added two touchdowns for Harrison (3-0).<br> <br> Mike Brown led South Cobb with 121 rushing yards on 31 carries with a TD.<br> <br> NO. 5 WARE COUNTY DOESN&#39;T LET UP AGAINST SAVANNAH: Derrick Daniels ran for 106 yards on 11 carries with three touchdowns to lead Ware to a 37-8 win over Savannah.<br> <br> The Gators (4-0) scored on every possession expect for the last one, which was halted by a fumble. Daniels scored on runs of 3, 12 and 27 yards.<br> <br> NO. 6 WASHINGTON-WILKES COMPLETES ONLY ON PASS, BUT WINS: Jay Small scored touchdowns and Chris Dean added another score and Washington-Wilkes totaled 450 yards in a 42-15 win over Newton.<br> <br> Clete Wilson completed the Tigers (3-1) only pass of the game with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Demont Gresham. Kelmetrius Wylie and Jerbar Mois also scored TDs.<br> <br> NO. 1 LOWNDES ROUTES MEADOWCREEK: Darriet Perry ran for 158 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns, all in the first half, to lead Lowndes to a 57-6 route over Meadowcreek.<br> <br> The Vikings (4-0) opened the game with a 61-yard drive, with Devaris Leonard pounding in a 6-yard TD.
