RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Toney Baker ran for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass Saturday night as North Carolina State scored 31 points in the first quarter and defeated Eastern Kentucky 54-10.
Baker ran for 85 yards on six carries before the Colonels could figure out how to stop him. Quarterback Jay Davis threw for 113 yards in the first quarter and helped the Wolfpack (1-1) earn their first victory following an opening-night loss to Atlantic Coast Conference rival Virginia Tech.
N.C. State also snapped a four-game home losing streak.
After amassing three turnovers and 12 penalties for 105 yards in the loss to the Hokies, the mistakes which became a sore subject for N.C. State coach Chuck Amato weren't even a nuisance.
The Colonels (0-3) have lost their last seven non-conference road games. They were playing the Wolfpack for the first time.
Trouble began on the opening kickoff when Eastern Kentucky's Tremayne Perkins fumbled at the 15 and Oliver Hoyte recovered it for N.C. State. Two plays later, Baker caught a 13-yard pass from Davis. John Deraney added a 31-yard field goal midway through the period.
After a three-and-out for the Colonels, Baker rumbled 32 yards for a score, blasting free safety Carl Hayden en route to the end zone.
Eastern Kentucky quarterback Josh Greco quick-kicked on third down, and the Wolfpack shook off a personal foul call and got a 3-yard scoring run from Baker.
The special teams chipped in when Mario Williams blocked Benton Kuzmaul's punt and Manny Lawson fell on it at the Eastern Kentucky 9. Andre Brown converted it into a 7-yard scoring run with 3:53 left.

The 31 points in the first quarter were the most N.C. State has scored in any quarter since at least 1980.

Eastern Kentucky briefly reversed the tide when defensive end Steven Cassell picked up reserve quarterback Marcus Stone's fumble late in the second quarter and ran 20 yards for the score.
With some of the crowd of 56,747 headed for the parking lot, N.C. State padded its lead on Davis' 70-yard scoring pass play to Darrell Blackman in the third quarter. Davis threw for 234 yards.
Stone tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Geron James midway through the fourth quarter.
