Ware ends top-ranked Lowndes 19-game winning streak

Ware County possibly pulled off the biggest upset this season.<br> <br> In a lopsided second half, the Gators beat Lowndes, one of the top teams in the country 28-7.<br> <br> The loss ended a 19-game winning streak for the Vikings (4-1). The defending Class AAAAA state champions had won their first four games by a combined 199-27, an average score of 50-7.<br> <br> But the Vikings had three fourth quarter turnovers, and Ware County (5-0), ranked No. 5 in Class AAAA, took advantage of the mistakes to break a 7-all tie and score three touchdowns in the final period.<br> <br> ``Turnovers killed us,&#39;&#39; Lowndes coach Randy McPherson said.<br> <br> With a 14-7 lead in the fourth quarter, Lowndes had a chance to tie the game but fumbled the ball away. That set up a 31-yard touchdown run by Roger Kite.<br> <br> On Lowndes next possession, Jarroid Johnson tried a halfback pass, but it fell short for an interception. Victor Daniels then connected with Derrick Daniels on a 7-yard touchdown pass to give Ware a 28-7 edge.<br> <br> Victor Daniels completed 11-of-14 passes for 170 yards for Ware.<br> <br> ``You can&#39;t beat a football team like Ware County if you turn it over that many times,&#39;&#39; McPherson said.<br> <br> The Gators moved the ball efficiently against the Vikings normally tough defense, compiling 273 offensive yards.<br> <br> Lowndes, which hadn&#39;t scored fewer than 41 points all season, managed 184 yards. The Vikings trailed at halftime for the first time since a playoff loss to Camden County in 2003.<br> <br> No. 5 VALDOSTA IS 0-2 AGAINST FLORIDA TEAMS: B.J. Daniels threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Isaac West with 1:01 to play to lift Tallahasee-Lincoln, Fla. to a 20-19 win over Valdosta.<br> <br> The Wildcats lost against Madison County, Fla., on a two-point conversion in overtime 29-28.<br> <br> Valdosta (2-2) held leads of 12-0 and 19-6, only to have Lincoln come back at the end. On the deciding drive, trailing 19-13, Lincoln got first downs on a Valdosta late hit and a 33-yard completion to West on fourth-and-14.<br> <br> West then caught the game-deciding touchdown pass for the win.<br> <br> Valdosta&#39;s Michael Turner went 16-for-24 for a career-high 224 yards and three touchdowns. Dawson had seven catches for 96 yards, while Brandon Wrice added two catches for 92 yards.<br> <br> Daniels threw for 122 yards and a touchdown for Lincoln.<br> <br> No. 2 CARROLLTON GIVES BOWDON NO HOPE: Kevin Dix ran for 85 yards on two carries with a touchdown and Michael Kirk added 56 yards on the ground with a score to lead Carrollton to a 45-3 win over Bowdon.<br> <br> The Trojans (5-0) have now won 16 straight games over the Red Devils (4-1), including last seasons 43-0 rout in Bowdon. Carrollton, No. 2 in Class AAA, outgained Bowdon 248-57 in total yards.<br> <br> Jake Rollins completed 7-of-10 passes for 42 yards for Bowdon, who is No. 1 in Class A. Michael Thomas led the Red Devils with 11 rushing yards.<br> <br> No. 10 BROOKS TOO MUCH FOR WESTOVER: Donnell Golden ran for 141 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns to help Brooks County to a 60-19 win over Westover.<br> <br> Trojans (3-1) gained 478 rushing yards, holding Westover to only 180 total yards.<br> <br> Alex Jackson had 107 yards with two touchdowns on the ground and A.D. Phillips added 97 yards with two scores.<br> <br> CLINCH CO. NOTCHES RANKED OPPONENT: Quarterback Shane Burns had five carries for 121 yards and Clinch County beat Seminole County 26-6.<br> <br> The Panthers (2-3) finished with 297 total yards, while Seminole (3-1) had 126.<br> <br> No. 2 BREMEN HAS SHOOTOUT WITH LANDMARK: Ret Tollesons had 201 total yards and three touchdowns to lead Bremen to a 35-21 win over Landmark Christian.<br> <br> After the Eagles (3-2) took a 14-0 lead, the Blue Devils (5-0) scored seven unanswered touchdowns the first three by Tollesons.<br> <br> Tollesons, who completed 6-of-9 passes for 65 yards, ran for 136 yards on 15 carries. Neil Loveridge added 62 rushing yards on 16 carries.<br> <br> Miles King had 163 receiving yards on 11 catches with two touchdowns for Landmark.<br> <br> No. 3 BROOKWOOD SETS NEW RECORDS: Cameron Smith broke a school record with seven touchdowns to lead Brookwood to a 60-0 rout over Meadowcreek.<br> <br> Smith, who had 195 yards on 17 carries, eclipsed Mark Townsend&#39;s record of six TDs in a game in 1992. Smith also tied a Gwinnett County record for touchdowns, set by Norcross&#39; Leon White in 1992.<br> <br> The 60-point outburst by Brookwood (4-0) was also a school record for points scored in a game, breaking the old record of 59 set against Newton County in 1996.<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
