South Carolina names Griffin women's assistant

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) South Carolina has named Ken Griffin, a former scouting director at a recruiting service, assistant women&#39;s basketball coach, the university said Tuesday.<br> <br> Ken Griffin was director for Southeast Roundball Journal and director of basketball operations for Garden City Roundball Inc. where he was responsible for counseling and mentoring area students.<br> <br> South Carolina coach Susan Walvius said Griffin was personable and had relationships with the region&#39;s top high school players and coaches.<br> <br> ``He has recruited some of the top talent in the southeastern region to compete on his teams and attend his camps. I am sure he can do the same at USC,&#39;&#39; Walvius said.<br> <br> Griffin is a 1994 graduate of Voorhees College.<br> <br> South Carolina finished 8-21 this past season, going just 2-12 in the Southeastern Conference.<br> <br> The Gamecocks open the season against High Point on Nov. 18.<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
