JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Golfer John Daly is suing ``The Florida Times-Union'' and its Web site. He claims columnist Mike Freeman defamed him in an article last spring when he Freeman wrote that Daly is ``accused of smacking women around'' and has ``Thug Life qualifications.''<br>

The suit was filed last week in Duval County Circuit Court and seeks a jury trial.<br>

Daly's attorney says statements in the column were not true.<br>

The paper says it stands by the column, although earlier this month it ran a front page sports section note to clarify parts of the column. Daly's lawsuit says the note ``did not constitute a full and fair correction, apology or retraction.''<br>
