Well-known Habersham minister dies

CLARKESVILLE - A memorial service is planned Sunday in Clarkesville for a well-known Habersham County minister, Rev. George Deadwyler.<br> <br> Rev. Deadwyler died Thursday following a bout with cancer.<br> <br> He pastored Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville for 13 years and was a former trustee of Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland and the Southern Baptist Convention&#39;s North American Mission Board.<br> <br> Deadwyler, who was 76, also served as a chaplain in the Air Force Reserve and for Clarkesville Police, Habersham Emergency Management Agency and Habersham County Medical Center, as well as the Habersham Central High School football team. He served as a consultant for the Georgia Baptist Convention in the area of Church and Community Missions, retiring from that position in 1997, after which he served a number of churches in northeast Georgia interim pastor. Deadwyler was a former member of the Habersham County Board of Health.<br> <br> The memorial service will be held at 3:00 Sunday at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
