SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Outfielder Barry Bonds now says there's a good chance he could play for the San Francisco Giants this season because his surgically-repaired right knee is doing better.
Bonds says on his Web site that his rehab has taken a turn for the better over the last ten days. He hopes to be in the batting cage in the next few weeks, saying there's a good possibility he could be back in September.
Earlier this month, Bones told M-L-B.com that he didn't expect to play this year.
Giants manager Felipe Alou was cautiously optimistic as he looked at a printout from Bonds' Web site before tonight's game at Cincinnati.
The Giants have gone just 51-and-66 without Bonds, but it leaves them only seven games behind first-place San Diego in the National League West.
