FLOWERY BRANCH - The Atlanta Falcons released defensive end Brandon Mitchell, an eight-year NFL veteran, and reached an injury settlement with rookie receiver Derrick Tinsley on Monday.

The Falcons will make the bulk of their cuts Tuesday, when teams are required to reduce their rosters to 65 players.

The 30-year-old Mitchell signed with the Falcons in April but never made much of an impact on the defensive line. Originally a second-round pick by New England in 1997, he has played in 96 games in his career, including 45 starts.

Mitchell spent the last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

Tinsley was a rookie free agent from suburban Marietta. He played collegiately at Tennessee.
