Three UGA students killed in highway crash

<p>Three University of Georgia students were killed yesterday in a crash on Interstate 20 in Taliaferro County.</p><p>All three were from Martinez in Columbia County.</p><p>The victims were 19-year-old Tariq Fischer, 19-year-old Mohammad Hasan and 20-year-old Imran Khan.</p><p>The accident happened just after 4:30 yesterday afternoon when a 1999 B-M-W 323-I driven by Fischer crossed the grassy median on I-20 and struck the front of an 18-wheeler.</p><p>The truck driver -- 44-year-old Terry Kelley of Stockbridge -- survived the crash and did NOT need medical treatment.</p><p>Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chad Garrett said alcohol was NOT a factor in the accidents and that all the victims were wearing seat belts. He said light rain may have contributed to the accident, which happened about three miles west of Exit 154 in Thomson.</p>
