Five crew chiefs fined for Chicago actions

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA - NASCAR fined the crew chief for Johnny Sauter $15,000 on Monday after Sauter&#39;s car failed inspection at Daytona International Speedway.<br> <br> Joel Shear was fined $10,000 for using unapproved rear coil spring mounts before the Pepsi 400 on July 2. He was also fined $5,000 because the infraction violated his probation that was imposed in April.<br> <br> Shear was given a four-race suspension when NASCAR discovered an illegal carburetor on the car owned by James Finch after it finished 14th in the Busch Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. He was placed on probation until Dec. 31.<br> <br> Four other crew chiefs were also fined Monday for rules violations before the Daytona race.<br> <br> Dan Kolanda, crew chief for Morgan Shepherd, was fined $10,000 for also using unapproved rear coil spring mounts, while Bobby Hamilton Jr.&#39;s crew chief, Harold Holly, was hit with a $10,000 fine for using an unapproved oil reservoir tank cover.<br> <br> Glenn Darrow, crew chief for Kevin Lepage, was fined $2,500 for using unapproved fuel cell foam, while Tony Eury Jr., crew chief for Michael Waltrip, was fined $500 for missing the prerace driver&#39;s meeting.
