ATLANTA - A large-scale summit in Atlanta Wednesday will address the gang problem here in North Georgia.

Joe Amerling of the Gainesville-Hall County Gang Task Force is one of those scheduled to speak to the meeting.

It is expected to be attended by more than 100 local, state and federal law enforcement officials.

Participants are expected to share their experiences with gangs; discuss "best practices" for combating gang crime; and learn about resources that may allow them to more effectively prevent, investigate and prosecute gang crime.

"Communities throughout North Georgia face an increased threat from violent crimes and other offenses committed by gangs and their members and associates," said U.S. Attorney Nahmias, who is hosting the meeting.

"The law enforcement community recognizes this threat, and...representatives of dozens of local, state, and federal agencies through North Georgia will convene for an anti-gang summit. Working together, we will defeat and dismantle gangs and make our communities better and safer places to live."
