Two-day rainfall exceeds total for all of May

GAINESVILLE - The rain and wind were still with Thursday morning after a raw day Wednesday and nearly two inches of rain in Gainesville since this round of showers began.

At one point, the rain was falling at the rate of about one inch an hour and winds Wednesday gusted to around 40 m.p.h. at times.

More rain has now fallen in Gainesville in the past two days than in all of May - and the rain we received yesterday is the most for a single day since March 31.

The high temperature Wednesday reached only 63.
