WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) For the first time in eight years, Americans have qualified for the top two spots in a Champ Car World Series race.
Jimmy Vasser and A-J Allmendinger today grabbed the top two spots for tomorrow's Road Runner 225 at the Milwaukee Mile.
Vasser took his ninth career pole and first since the spring of 2002 with a lap of 176-point-two miles per hour.
The qualifying puts Vasser, the oldest driver in the series at 39, on the front row along with last year's top Champ Car rookie.
The last time two Americans started from the front row at a Champ Car event was at California Speedway in 1998, when Scott Pruett started from the pole alongside Vasser.
