TORONTO - 1997 National League MVP Larry Walker says he might retire after this baseball season.
The 38-year-old Canadian is hitting .249 with five homers and 23 RBI with St. Louis this season.
He said he had an inclination last year that his time was up, but decided to play this year and see what happens. The three-time batting champion calls the season a grind, and says age, eight surgeries and a reconstructed knee are slowing him.
Walker said he'll retire for sure if the Cardinals win the World Series. He'll also consider moving to an American League team and becoming a designated hitter, adding his heart will still be there, but his body is saying, ``Come on buddy."
