The Green Wave picked up four of the state's five major awards as junior pitcher/first baseman Micah Owings was named the Louisiana Player of the Year, junior pitcher/outfielder Brian Bogusevic earned the Pitcher of the Year nod, rookie third baseman Brad Emaus was the state's Freshman of the Year and head coach Rick Jones was selected as the Louisiana Coach of the Year.
In addition to Bogusevic and Owings, junior shortstop Tommy Manzella and junior centerfielder Nathan Southard made the first team All-State squad, while catcher Greg Dini and Emaus were named to the second team.
Owings added the Louisiana Player of the Year honor to the Conference USA Player of the Year trophy he earned earlier this week. The Gainesville native ended the season as the Green Wave's leading hitter with a .359 batting average, 18 home runs and 65 RBI while going 12-4 on the mound with a 3.26 earned run average and a team-leading 135 strikeouts. An All-America choice by Collegiate Baseball (second team) and Baseball America (third team) in his first season at Tulane, Owings was drafted in the third round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
