Man charged with stabbing wife and stepson to death

<p>A man is charged with stabbing his wife and his 16-year-old stepson to death after police found the boy's body in the street in front of the family's home.</p><p>Karl Leon Baker, 47, of Columbus, is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a knife during commission of a crime, said Columbus Police Sgt. Tom Plock. Baker was being held in the Muscogee County Jail.</p><p>When police arrived at the family's home at 2:35 a.m. Sunday, they found 16-year-old Antonio Arnold dead in the street. Arnold's mother, 46-year-old Debra Baker, was dead inside the house, Plock said.</p><p>Debra Baker and Arnold had each been stabbed several times with a 8- to 10-inch kitchen knife, said Muscogee County Coroner James Dunnavant.</p><p>Arnold was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m., Dunnavant said. Debra Baker was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m.</p><p>Karl Baker was arrested later away from the home, Plock said. Police refused to say where Baker was arrested.</p><p>Fourteen-year-old Whitney McMiller, who lives across the street from the Bakers' house, said Arnold was a 10th-grader at Carver High School. The slain teen's younger sister also attends Carver, McMiller said Sunday.</p><p>Police were previously called to the home on April 7. Karl Baker told police his stepson and another young man assaulted him, kicking and punching him before stealing $250 from him.</p><p>Baker said Arnold threatened him with a pistol, and continued to kick and punch him until he got the cash from him. Baker, who suffered bruised ribs and facial cuts during that attack.</p><p>There is no record that Arnold or the other young man was arrested after that incident.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x1cda17c)</p>
