THE GOOD NEWS: Georgia will gain military jobs under a plan announced by the Pentagon Friday. The net gain of more than 7,000 comes from a boost to Fort Benning in Columbus.

THE BAD NEWS: Four bases in Georgia were on the hit list of planned closings. They were Fort McPherson, Fort Gillem, the Naval Air Station-Atlanta in Marietta and the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens.

WHAT'S NEXT?: The closure list isn't final until November, so Georgia can still lobby to save the four bases.
