A Marietta man who drove for miles, then went to sleep with the body of his decapitated friend in his truck, was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison.

John Kemper Hutcherson, 21, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide charges in the Aug. 29 death of 23-year-old Frankie Brohm, said Cobb County District Attorney's spokeswoman Kathy Watkins.

Hutcherson and Brohm were on their way home from a bar after a night of drinking when Brohm leaned his head out of the car window because he was felling ill. Hutcherson veered off the road, grazing a telephone pole support wire that severed Brohm's head.

Hutcherson, who police say was apparently unaware of the incident, drove more than 10 miles to his parent's home, went inside and fell asleep with the headless body still in his truck.

A neighbor walking with his daughter discovered the body the next morning. Police found the severed head at the accident site.

Investigators say Hutcherson's blood-alcohol level likely was over .22, more than twice the legal limit in Georgia, at the time of the accident.

An attorney for the Brohm family asked for leniency for Hutcherson, who was a childhood friend of the victim. Alcoholics Anonymous counselors also were among the witnesses who spoke on his behalf.
