GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra has a new music director.

Dr. Gregory Pritchard is the choice to fill the vacancy left by Larry Sims, who resigned about a year ago.

Dr. Pritchard is in his sixth year as Director of Orchestras at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett county and has more than 12 years conducting experience at the university, professional and youth levels.

He was guest conductor for last year's July 4 Patriotic Pops Concert.

"Dr. Pritchard exhibits all the necessary skills and qualities to fulfill a new aggressive growth and development plan to expand programming and outreach.", said Pam Bilyeu, GSO Board President.

The 2005-2006 season will be expanded to include a December concert featuring holiday selections and carols. In addition, to fulfill the mission of a Regional Orchestra, the Symphony will present a July 1, Patriotic Pops Concert and a December 13, Holiday Extravaganza in Hiawassee.
