JEFFERSON - Except for Justin Oliver's win in the long jump Thursday, Redan was a no-show in the field events, but, led by Oliver again, Redan blazed to its second straight Class Five-A championship at the G-H-S-A Boys State Track and Field meet today.

Oliver added easy wins in the 200 and 400 to his long jump title as Redan piled up 83 points, way ahead of runnerup Marietta with 52.

Oliver scored 35 points during the meet, the most points possible in a state meet, with his wins in the three individual events and both relays.

Oliver was named the meet's most outstanding performer.

The one-sided nature of the Five-A race was typical as only the Quad-A race was close. Carrollton in Triple-A, Charlton County in Double-A and Pelham in A clinched the title before the final four-by-400 relay.

The only tight race was in Quad-A, where Cedar Shoals placed first and fourth in the last race, the four-by-400 relay, to overtake Marist, St. Pius X and Hiram, all tied for first entering the last event. The Jaguars' best individual race of the day was a third by Carlton Golden in the 200.

Cedar Shoals finished with 42 points, followed by Hiram with 37, and St. Pius X and Marist tied at 36.

(Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
