GAINESVILLE - Gainesville fire officials say a potentially devastating fire was avoided early Saturday when a sprinkler system extinguished a small fire at a westside grocery store.

Battalion Chief Clint Miller says firefighters got a call to Delray Farms on Brown's Bridge Road in the old Wal-Mart location around 1:30.

Miller says the fire was contained to a meat wrapping machine and was caused by an electrical short. He says there was some smoke and water damage.
