GAINESVILLE - The Sam Jones Cath Observation Unit at Northeast Georgia Medical Center was dedicated Sunday afternoon.

Jones is a former chairman of the hospital authority and a $500,000 donation was made earlier this year to the Medical Center Foundation in his memory by his wife, Claribel, and son, Sammy.

The observation unit is located on the first floor of the Outpatient Services Building on medical center's main campus. The Cardiac Services department uses the unit for the preparation and recovery of patients who are having non-emergent outpatient catheterization procedures. The unit consists of 14 private rooms, each with its own bath.

Jones served on the Hospital Authority from 1973 to 1979 and served as its chairman from 1974 to 1979. He spent his career with Johnson & Johnson and passed away in 2003.
