COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) After pinch-hitter Neil Giesler tied the game with an eighth-inning grand slam, Steven Tolleson had a three-run homer in the ninth to lead South Carolina into the Southeastern Conference tournament with a 12-9 victory over Kentucky on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (36-19), with their second straight victory over the Wildcats (29-26), locked up a spot in the league's eight-team postseason tournament. But it took a dramatic rally at Sarge Frye Field to advance.

South Carolina trailed 9-5 in the eighth inning following a grand slam by the Wildcats' Colin Cowgill, who finished with five RBIs.

But then Giesler, batting only .214 this season, came in for Tommy King and got South Carolina back in it. His drive to right was his fifth homer of the year.

The Gamecocks weren't through.

Ian Paxton led off the ninth with a single and advanced to second on Davy Gregg's bunt. Michael Campbell was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Tolleson's dramatic home run his sixth of the season to right field.

Forrest Beverly (1-0) got the final four outs for the victory. Kentucky's fourth pitcher, freshman Brock Baber (2-3), gave up the homers to Giesler and Tolleson and took the loss.

(Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
