Stanford rolls to another NCAA women's tennis title

ATHENS - At most schools, the completion of a perfect season with a national championship would be hailed as the greatest year ever.<br> <br> For Stanford in women&#39;s tennis, it is business as usual.<br> <br> The Cardinal (27-0) shut out Texas 4-0 Sunday to win its second straight NCAA championship and complete its second straight perfect season. Stanford has won 56 straight matches, still 20 short of the school record set from 1988 to 1991.<br> <br> Stanford completed its third undefeated season under coach Lele Forood, whose career record is a gaudy 138-3. Overall, Stanford has won 14 NCAA team titles, and half of those teams finished with perfect records.<br> <br> There was little drama about Sunday&#39;s outcome as Stanford dominated from the start against Texas (25-6).<br> <br> Stanford won the doubles point and every set that was completed in singles.<br> <br> The clinching point was scored at No. 3 singles by senior Erin Burdette of Jackson, Ga., who beat Kendra Strohm 6-4, 6-1.<br> <br> Stanford&#39;s earlier singles points came from Theresa Logar at No. 4 and Amber Liu at No. 1.<br> <br> The singles tournament begins Monday. Despite being the two-time defending champion, Liu enters as the seventh seeded player.<br> <br> The doubles tournament begins Tuesday.
