Fort Stewart soldier killed in Iraq

<p>An Army soldier stationed at Fort Stewart was killed in Iraq when his vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, the military said Thursday.</p><p>Army Spc. Manuel Lopez III, 20, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Tuesday in Baghdad. Lopez was the 19th member of the Fort Stewart-based 3rd Infantry Division to die since its 19,000 soldiers deployed to Iraq in January for the second time in two years.</p><p>He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry.</p><p>As of Thursday, at least 1,548 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,178 died as a result of hostile action, according to the Defense Department. The figures include four military civilians.</p>
