Police chase truck with crane mounted on back

<p>Police chased a man driving a stolen truck bearing a construction crane for 40 minutes through southern Atlanta suburbs Monday until it overturned after being disabled by a tire-flattening device.</p><p>Clayton County Police said the 10-wheel vehicle was taken from a roofing and deck-building company shortly after 7 a.m. The winding chase reached speeds of 50 mph but slowed to 30 mph after a "stop stick" was placed in front of the vehicle.</p><p>The truck grazed a pickup as it flipped over onto the driver's into a lawn. Several police officers pulled the suspect from the passenger side window. There were no serious injuries.</p><p>Charles Downey, 34, of Atlanta was charged with theft by receiving, reckless driving, fleeing police and marijuana possession, said Capt. Jeff Turner, a police spokesman.</p><p>Turner said there was no explanation of why the truck was taken and that Downey did not work for the company that owned it.</p><p>"They did find some marijuana on him, so apparently there were some drug issues," Turner said.</p>
