The Saints (43-12) got off to a quick start as they scored two runs in the first inning off of a lead off homer from junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale and Bulger's first home run of the evening. North Georgia put four runs up in the third inning after Bulger homered in his second at bat with a runner on base. An RBI double from sophomore designated hitter Creston Warner added a third run followed by a sacrifice fly by senior right fielder Richie Daigle to make the score 6-2.
A three run fifth inning, capped off by a two RBI double from freshman center fielder Ryan Seay of Dawsonville made the score 9-0. The Caveliers (23-19) scored their first three runs of the game in the sixth inning off of two RBI singles from junior shortstop Willie Jones and junior left fielder Jason Warren. A third run was scored on a fielder's choice to make the score 9-3.
North Georgia scored their final two runs off the game off of the bat of Daigle as he singled in a run in the sixth inning and hit a sacrifice fly to score the second run in the eighth and make it an eight run ball game. Both Daigle and Bulger finished the game with three RBI's each for the Saints.
MC rallied in the ninth inning to score three runs off of an error, a sacrifice fly by sophomore second baseman Matt McCraw (Forest City, N.C.), and a double from Warren. Junior reliever Joseph Hardigree closed out the game with a strikeout to give North Georgia the 11-6 win.
Sophomore starter Michael Whiting of Gainesville picked up the win and improved to 6-1 overall after going six inning and allowing only two earned runs off three hits while striking out seven. Cavaliers sophomore starter Brendan Cunliffe took the loss after pitching four and two-thirds of an inning and giving up eight earned runs off of seven hits with two strikeouts.
The Saints take to the field again on Friday as they host Shorter College at 3:00 p.m. for the first of a three game weekend series. The game will be broadcast live on Glory 1330 AM. Montreat will play again this Saturday as the face the University of Virginia at Wise for a double header at 1:00 p.m.
