DAHLONEGA - North Georgia College and State University student debaters argued for and against the Patriot Act Wednedsay during the school's 10th Annual Honors Day Conference.

Does the post 9-11 act protect Americans from terrorism as intended or has it become "Big Brother is watching You?"

Great Debate moderator Dr. Stephen Smith said the audience heard both sides.

"It seemed like the audience was more on the side of the team that argued against the Patriot Act," Smith said.

Debaters argued that the Act was undemocratic while others held that includes safe guards that prevent it from being intrusive.

Debater Robert Rennie urged his audience to think about what the act might cost them in exchange for fighting terrorism.

"How much are we willing to give up of our own liberties, of our own freedoms as citizens of this country, at the cost of security?," Rennie asked.
