ATLANTA - East Hall High School, represented by Principal Bill Sloan, STAR Student Brad Hamilton, STAR Teacher Margaret Ensley, and Student Council President Tori Ivey, was honored by both state legislative bodies recently for winning the Governor's Cup 2004, signifying the most improvement on SAT scores for a school of their size in Georgia.

The program was an initiative of Governor Sonny Perdue to improve the state's national ranking on the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). Governor Perdue and State School Superintendent Kathy Cox had made a visit to East Hall High School last September to present the award.

During the legislative recognition, the Georgia House of Representatives lead by the Representatives James Mills, Stacey Reece, and Carl Rogers, all of Hall County, honored East Hall in the reading of a House Proclamation on the House Chamber floor.

East Hall's SAT score jumped 84 points, or from 926 to 1,010, best improvement of any school in the state of comparable student enrollment (The Hall County School System's average SAT score among all seniors taking the exam this past school year was 1,016 or 32 points higher than last year's 984).

Next, the Georgia Senate, led by Hall Senator Casey Cagle, honored East Hall with a similar proclamation reading in the Senate Chamber.

Finally, Governor Sonny Perdue welcomed the East Hall delegation into his office for an opportunity to express his personal appreciation to the entire East Hall High School community in this achievement.

Superintendent Dennis Fordham and Board of Education Chair Richard Higgins also attended the round of events.
