WASHINGTON - Tenth District Congressman Nathan Deal says he is pleased with the congressional map given final approval by the Republican-controlled Georgia General Assembly.

Deal, a Gainesville Republican, says the new map puts Georgia's "community of interest" back together.

The new map splits 18 counties as opposed to 34 in the current congressional plan - which was adopted a couple of years ago by a Democrat-dominated state legislature.

As we previously reported, Deal's district would pick up three new counties and the rest of Forsyth under the new plan.

Hall County would remain a part of the 10th district and White, Lumpkin and Union - now a part of the 9th district - would be added. That would bring the number of counties in the 10th to fifteen.

The northern part of Forsyth has been a part of the district and, under the new plan, the southern part of the county would be moved from the 7th District to the 10th, meaning all of Forsyth would again be in one congressional district.
