WASHINGTON - Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson was recently awarded the Phil Landrum Legacy Award for outstanding public service.

The award was presented by Gainesville-based Ninth District Opportunity (NDO), one of Georgia's twenty community action agencies.

Janice Riley, executive director of NDO, presented the marble plaque to Senator Isakson in Washington.

The award is named for the late Congressman Phil Landrum, who is credited with authoring legislation which created community action agencies across the country in the 1960s.

"Senator Isakson has an abiding commitment to children and youth and vital services to needy Georgians, and we were pleased to honor his commitment with this public service award," Riley said.

Ninth District Opportunity initiated the award five years ago honoring exemplary public service.
