Teacher charged with having sex with student

<p>A high school teacher has been charged with sexual assault after a student said she had consensual sex with him at her home.</p><p>The Avondale Estates High School student was at least 16 years old _ the legal age to consent to sex _ when the alleged encounter took place in May. But authorities charged Carlton Calhoun, 31, of Ellenwood, under a Georgia law that prohibits sexual contact by a person who has supervision or disciplinary authorities over another person.</p><p>The student at first "kept quiet" but reported the allegation to school officials Tuesday because rumors were circulating at the school, a DeKalb County police report states.</p><p>Calhoun is in his seventh year at Avondale High, said DeKalb County schools spokesman Spencer Ragsdale.
