GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville-based North Health District has launched a Public Health Community Volunteers campaign to help maintain a repository of drugs and medical supplies mandated by the Department of Homeland Security.

"We're asking for people who have various skills to volunteer to help us administer medicines in case of a mass casualty incident," says Dave Palmer, spokesman for Health District 2.

Palmer adds the District is beginning the effort in some of the smaller counties in the area.

"We've already had meetings in Franklin County and Union County," Palmer says. "And, we're beginning meetings soon in Hart County."

The health district has partnered with local county governments, hospitals and other organizations to develop plans to carry out the mandate.
