Kansas church getting into White County controversy

TOPEKA, KANSAS - A Baptist church in Kansas with a national reputation of anti-homosexual activities is jumping into the controversy brewing in White County.<br> <br> Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, which has a history of demonstrating at such high-profile events as the Democratic National Convention (and mincing no words in doing so), plans to picket White County High School March 7.<br> <br> A group of students has indicated it would like to form a Gay-Straight Alliance, but no official application has been made. The school meets next Thursday but is not expected to address the issue, unless it receives a formal application.<br> <br> The 50-year-old church is described on its Web site as &#34;Old School (or, Primitive) Baptist Church.&#34;<br> <br> &#34;In short, we adhere to the teachings of the Bible, preach against all form of sin (e.g., fornication, adultery, sodomy), and insist that the doctrines of grace be taught publicly to all men,&#34; according to the site.<br> <br> It claims to have conducted over 22,000 demonstrations, worldwide, since June 1991.
