CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) Daniel Bard allowed just one hit over seven innings and retired the final 13 batters he faced to help North Carolina beat Birmingham Southern 6-3 Friday.<br>

Jay Cox was 3 for 5 with an RBI for the Tar Heels (6-0), who trailed 2-0 before a four-run fifth inning put them out front.<br>

Mac Godwin hit a solo homer off Robert Woodard in the ninth for the Panthers (2-2). The home run was the first allowed this season by a Tar Heel pitching staff that has given up just four earned runs in 54 innings.<br>

Bard (2-0) walked Blake Burton to lead off the third inning. Burton was bunted over to second and took third on a passed ball before scoring on a single by Scott Billak. led off the inning with a walk, was bunted over to second and took third on a passed ball. Billak moved to third on a throwing error by Bard before scoring on a sacrifice bunt.<br>

Brandon Hynick (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks.
