Savannah to get IKEA distribution center

<p>Gov. Perdue and company officials announced today that IKEA will build a new distribution center on 115 acres at the Savannah River International Trade Park.</p><p>Officials with the world's largest home furnishings retailer estimate the one-point-seven (m) million-square-foot center will create 150 jobs when it is completed.</p><p>The first phase of the project consists of a 785,000 square foot building -- which IKEA believes will be operating by summer 20007. The Savannah Distribution Center will be located four miles from the Garden City Terminal at the Port of Savannah.</p><p>IKEA expects to receive 15,000 20-foot containers through the Port of Savannah when the project is completed.</p><p>The Savannah center will serve IKEA stores in Atlanta; Frisco, Texas; Houston; and a store under construction in Round Rock, Texas.</p><p>IKEA has more than 225 stores in 33 countries.</p>
