KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl announced on Thursday the members of his first recruiting class.
Forward Wayne Chism from Bolivar and guards Marques Johnson of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Josh Tabb of Carbondale, Ill., have signed with the Volunteers in a class considered among the best in the Southeastern Conference.
``There is a common denominator with all of these players. They have all been champions, all are tough and all of them are hungry. They had a lot of options to choose from. Tennessee will reward them for their commitment to this program,'' Pearl said in a statement.
The 6-foot-9 Chism helped lead Bolivar Central High School to the Class AA state title. He averaged 13.6 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks a game and was ranked the No. 2 center at the Reebok ABCD Camp last summer.
Johnson, who is 6-5, has been a starter since he was a freshman and averaged 21 points, 6.2 rebounds and four assists as a junior last year at Snider High School, which has a 50-15 record over the last three seasons.
Tabb, a 6-4 point guard, averaged 21 points, five assists and six rebounds as a senior last year at Carbondale High School, which played in the 2005 state championship game. He signed with Southern Illinois and is now playing at Harmony Community School in Cincinnati.
